About the platform
Will my printed QR still work if I change the destination?
Yes, that’s the whole point. The QR encodes a permanent short URL we own. You re-point the short URL from the dashboard or API, the printed code never changes.
Can I bring my own domain?
Add a CNAME, we issue the certificate automatically, and your links go out as go.yourbrand.com/sprng25.
How fast is the redirect?
Redirects are designed to resolve in well under 50ms in-region. Hot links are served straight from Redis; cold links land from Postgres on first hit, then cache.
Do you store the IP address of every scanner?
No. We hash the IP with a daily-rotating salt to compute uniques, then drop the raw value. Country and city are derived at write time, never stored against an identity.
Is there a self-hosted version?
On Scale, yes, Scale customers can run the redirect tier (Hono + Postgres + Redis) on their own infra, region-pinned and single-tenant, and ship scan events to our analytics pipeline. Reach out at [email protected].
Are there any limits right now?
No. During launch everything is unlimited, links, scans, API calls, workspaces. We’ll introduce fair-use tiers later, and the first 100 members get a full year on a paid plan, free.

Is this QR code free?
Yes, completely free, with no watermark and no sign-up. You own the downloaded image and may use it commercially.
Does the code expire?
No. A static QR encodes your link directly into the image, so it works for as long as the link does. If you want to change the destination later, or count scans, you need a dynamic code instead.
PNG or SVG for printing?
SVG for anything that goes to a printer: it is vector, so it scales to any size without blurring and the printer can set it at their own resolution. PNG is for screens and for tools that cannot place a vector.
What size should I print this QR code?
Roughly one tenth of the distance it will be scanned from: a code read at 1 m wants about 10 cm across. Our size calculator does the arithmetic, and the print checker grades a size you already have.
Will a coloured QR code still scan?
Yes, as long as the dark modules stay clearly darker than the background. Aim for a contrast ratio of 4.5:1 or better and keep the light colour on the background, never the other way round — an inverted code defeats many scanners.
Can I put my logo in the middle without breaking it?
Yes. Adding a logo here switches the code to the highest error-correction level automatically, which lets roughly a third of the symbol be obscured. Keep the logo under about a fifth of the width and test the result before printing.

Is my WiFi password safe in a QR code?
It is safe from us — the code is generated in your browser and the password never reaches our servers. It is not secret from anyone who sees the printed code, because the password is inside the image. Print it for a guest network only.
Which phones can join WiFi from a QR code?
iPhone on iOS 11 and later, and Android 10 and later, connect straight from the camera. Older Android needs a scanner app. Nothing needs to be installed on a modern phone.
What if I change the WiFi password?
The printed code stops working and has to be regenerated and reprinted, because the old password is baked into the image. If you rotate the guest password on a schedule, print the card on something you do not mind replacing.
Why does my WiFi QR code not connect?
Almost always the network name. It is case-sensitive and must match exactly, and a trailing space is invisible in the field but fatal in the code. After that, check the security type: picking WPA for an open network, or the reverse, fails silently on most phones.
Do I need an app to scan a WiFi QR code?
No. The built-in camera on any current iPhone or Android phone recognises the WiFi format and offers to join. Older Android phones may need the QR reader in the settings app instead of the camera.
Can I change the password without reprinting the code?
Not with this one. The password is inside the printed image, so a new password means a new code. If the sign is expensive to replace, point a dynamic code at a page that shows the current credentials instead.

Can I update a printed vCard code?
No. A static vCard is fixed, so a new phone number or a new role means a new code and a reprint. A dynamic Qrindo business card keeps the same printed image and lets you edit the details behind it.
Why does my code look so busy?
Because a vCard holds far more characters than a link. Trim the fields you do not need — a note or a long address is usually what tips it — or print it larger. Our size calculator will tell you how large.
vCard or MECARD, which should I use?
vCard, unless you need the smallest possible code. MECARD encodes the same basics in fewer characters, which prints smaller, but it carries no job title and some contact apps ignore parts of it.

vCard carries more fields and is what desktop address books expect. MECARD is far more compact, which matters when the code has to be small — on a badge or a card corner. If you only need a name, a phone and an email, MECARD prints smaller for the same reliability.
Does a vCard QR code work on both iPhone and Android?
Yes. Both open the contact card and offer to save it. iOS shows a preview first; Android usually opens the contacts app directly. Neither needs an app installed.
What happens to my printed cards when I change jobs?
They keep handing out the old details. A static vCard is frozen at print time, so a new number or title means a reprint. A dynamic Qrindo card keeps the same printed image and lets you edit what is behind it.

Do I need WhatsApp Business for this?
No. It works with any WhatsApp account. WhatsApp Business adds a catalogue, away messages and labels, none of which the QR code depends on.
What happens if the scanner has no WhatsApp?
The link opens in a browser and WhatsApp offers its web version or its install page. Nothing breaks, but the conversation does not start, so put a phone number in print next to the code if walk-in customers matter.
Can I see how many people scanned it?
Not with a static code — there is no server between the scan and WhatsApp to record anything. Counting scans, or changing the number later without reprinting, is what a dynamic code is for.
Why does my WhatsApp QR code open an invalid number?
The number is not in international format. WhatsApp wants digits only, starting with the country code and with no plus sign, spaces, brackets or dashes. A local number that works when you dial it will not work here.
Does this need WhatsApp Business?
No. The link works with any WhatsApp account, personal or business. WhatsApp Business has its own in-app QR code, but that one only lives inside the app; this one you can print.
Can I change the pre-filled message later?
Not on a printed static code — the message text is inside the image. If the message is seasonal, point a dynamic code at the wa.me link and edit the link instead of reprinting.

Where should I host the PDF?
Anywhere that gives a stable public URL: your own website, Google Drive or Dropbox with link sharing on, or any file host. What matters is that the address does not change and does not require signing in.
Can I put the PDF inside the QR code itself?
No. The largest QR code holds roughly three kilobytes of data, and that is at a density no printed code can carry. Every "PDF QR code", from every provider, is a link to a hosted file.
How do I swap the menu without reprinting?
Either keep the same file address and overwrite the file, or use a dynamic code, which points at a destination you control and can change at any time. Overwriting works until the day your host renames something.
Can a QR code contain the PDF itself?
No, and no generator can do it. A QR code holds at most a few thousand characters — a fraction of any real PDF. Every "PDF QR code" is a link to a hosted file, including this one; the difference is whether the tool says so.
Where should I host the PDF?
Anywhere that gives a stable public link and does not force a login. Your own site is best. Drive and Dropbox work if the sharing setting is public, but their share URLs change when you re-upload the file — which silently breaks a printed code.
What if I need to update the PDF after printing?
Replace the file at the same URL and the printed code keeps working. If your host changes the URL on every upload, use a dynamic code so the printed image points at something you control.

Does an SMS QR code send the message by itself?
No, and no code from anyone can. It opens the messaging app with the number and text filled in; the person still presses send. Phones deliberately refuse to send a message a scanned code composed.
Can I use a short code or a five-digit number?
Yes, and it is usually the better choice for a campaign. Enter it exactly as customers would dial it, with no country code, since short codes are not internationally routable.
Why is SMS better than a link for some campaigns?
Because it works with no data connection and it gives you the sender’s number, which a page visit does not. The trade-off is that you learn nothing until they actually send, and many will not.
Does scanning an SMS QR code send the message automatically?
No, and it must not. The code only opens the messaging app with the number and text filled in. The person still has to press send, which is what keeps it from being abused.
Will the person be charged for the text?
At their normal SMS rate, yes — this is an ordinary text from their own number. Say so on the sign if you are asking people to text a shortcode, because those can cost considerably more.
Do all phones support SMSTO codes?
Current iPhones and Android phones do. A handful of older readers only understand the older SMS: form and will show the raw text instead of opening the app — worth a test scan on an old handset if your audience has them.

Can I add a CC or an attachment?
CC works on some mail apps and is ignored by others, so this tool leaves it out rather than produce a code that behaves differently on every phone. An attachment is impossible — no mail app will let a link attach a file.
The code opens Gmail on my phone but Outlook on another. Why?
Because it opens whichever app that phone has set as its default mail handler. The code says "compose an email", not "use this app", and that is deliberate — hard-coding a provider would break it for everyone else.
Should I use an email code or a contact form?
An email code if you want the reply in a real inbox with the sender’s address attached, and if it must work offline. A form if you need structured fields, validation, or a record of who submitted what.
Which mail app opens when someone scans it?
Whichever one the phone has set as its default mail handler. On iOS that is Mail unless the person changed it; on Android it is usually Gmail. If no mail app is configured at all, nothing opens — which is the main reason a mailto code fails.
Can I pre-fill CC or BCC?
The mailto standard allows it, but support is patchy: several mobile mail apps drop CC and BCC and keep only the recipient and subject. This tool stays with the fields that work everywhere.
Will putting my email in a QR code attract spam?
Less than publishing it as text. Scrapers read pages, not printed images, so an address that only exists inside a printed code is not easily harvested. An address on a public web page is a different matter.

Will the phone call the number automatically?
No. It opens the dialler with the number entered and waits for the person to press call. Every mobile operating system requires that confirmation, which is why a scanned code cannot run up someone’s bill.
Can I include an extension?
You can append it after a comma (+96265000000,101), which most phones read as a pause then the digits. Support is not universal, so print the extension next to the code as well if it matters.
Is a phone code better than printing the number?
Print both. The code removes the typing, which matters on a moving vehicle or a high sign; the printed digits are what somebody uses when their camera cannot focus or their hands are full.
Should I include the country code?
Yes, always, with a leading plus sign. A local number works only for people already in that country and on that network. The plus form works from anywhere, which is the whole point of printing it.
Can I add an extension to the number?
You can, but support varies. Most phones accept a comma as a pause before the extension digits; a few ignore everything after it. If the extension matters, print it as text next to the code as well.
Is a call QR code useful on a vehicle?
It works, but a phone number in a QR code on a parked car is also a number anyone can harvest. Our vehicle contact card relays the message without ever showing your number, which is the safer shape for that use.

How much text fits in one QR code?
The theoretical ceiling is about 4,296 characters, but that is a symbol far too dense to print or scan in practice. Treat 300 characters as the comfortable limit for anything physical.
Does a text QR code work without internet?
Completely. The words are inside the image, so the phone reads them from the picture and shows them. Nothing is fetched, which is why this format is used for asset tags in places with no signal.
Can I hide or password-protect the text?
No. A QR code is an encoding, not encryption — anyone with any scanner reads it. If the content must be private, put a link to a protected page in the code instead of the content itself.
What does a text QR code actually do when scanned?
It shows the text. That is all — no app opens, no page loads, nothing is looked up. Most phone cameras display the string and offer to copy or search it.
How much text fits in one QR code?
A few thousand characters in theory, but long before that the code becomes too dense to scan at a sensible printed size. Keep it under a couple of hundred characters if it is going on paper.
Can I use it for Arabic or emoji?
Yes. The text is stored as UTF-8, so Arabic, emoji and any other script survive intact. They do take more space than plain ASCII, so the code gets denser faster.

Does a calendar QR code work as an event ticket?
No, and the difference matters. This adds a reminder to the guest’s calendar; it carries no unique identifier, so it cannot be checked in, cannot be invalidated, and is identical on every printed copy.
What if the event date moves?
Anyone who already scanned keeps the old date in their calendar, and the printed code keeps handing out the old date too. This is the strongest case on the site for a dynamic code, which you re-point once and everyone gets the new details.
Can one code hold a repeating event?
The iCalendar format supports repetition, but phone handling of it from a scan is inconsistent enough that this tool writes a single occurrence. For a weekly class, print the code and the schedule together.
Does the event land in the right time zone?
The times are written as local wall-clock time, so 19:00 stays 19:00 whatever the phone is set to. That is the right behaviour for a poster at a venue, and the wrong one for an international webinar — for those, say the time zone in the title.
Can one code hold a whole schedule?
Not usefully. The format allows several events but the code becomes unscannably dense, and most phones only offer to add the first one. For a multi-day programme, link to a page instead.
What if the date moves after the posters are printed?
Every printed code still adds the old date. This is the clearest case for a dynamic code: keep the printed image, point it at an event page, and change the date there.

Which map app does a location code open?
Whichever one the phone has set as default — Apple Maps on a stock iPhone, Google Maps on most Android. That is the advantage of a geo: point over a Google Maps link, which forces one app on everybody.
Can I use a street address instead of coordinates?
Not in this format, which is coordinate-based by design. Convert the address to a point once in a map app and encode that: it removes the geocoding guesswork that puts a delivery driver on the wrong side of a block.
Will it give walking or driving directions?
It drops a pin at the point; the person taps "directions" from there and their app picks the mode. The code deliberately does not choose driving on their behalf, which would be wrong inside a pedestrian area.
Where do I find the latitude and longitude?
In Google Maps, right-click the exact spot and the coordinates appear at the top of the menu, ready to copy. On a phone, long-press the point and read them from the search bar.
Does it open Google Maps or Apple Maps?
Whichever is the default on that phone — the geo: format is deliberately neutral and does not name a provider. If you need one specific app, encode the URL of that specific app with the plain link generator instead.
Coordinates or a business listing — which is better?
Coordinates drop a pin at an exact point, which is right for a site entrance, a stand or a trailhead. A listing link shows opening hours and reviews, which is right for a shop. Pick by what the person needs when they arrive.

Can one QR code open the right store for each phone?
Not a static one. Choosing by device happens on a server, after the scan, so the code has to point at a redirect you control rather than at a store. That is exactly what a smart link does.
Where do I find my app’s store link?
On the App Store, use the "Copy Link" button on the product page. On Google Play, copy the browser address of the app listing. Both work without the tracking parameters that get appended when you share from a phone.
Does the code work before the app is published?
The code is generated fine, but it points at a page that does not exist yet, so it shows an error until release day. Never print a run before the listing is live and you have opened the link yourself.
Can one QR code send iPhone and Android users to different stores?
Not a static one. The image encodes a fixed string and knows nothing about the phone reading it. Device routing needs a server in the path — that is a dynamic code, and Qrindo does it by reading the user agent at redirect time.
Should I use a store link or my own landing page?
A store link is one tap fewer, so it converts better when you know the audience is on one platform. A landing page lets one printed code serve both, and lets you keep the code after a store URL changes.
Do store links ever change?
The numeric App Store ID and the Play package name are stable, but the surrounding URL format has changed more than once, and a rebrand can change the slug. Test the printed code again before a large run.

Is it safe to print a wallet address as a QR code?
A receiving address is public by design, so printing it does not expose your funds. What it does expose is your balance and payment history to anybody who scans it, since public chains are readable by everyone. Use a fresh address per campaign if that matters.
Which networks does this support?
It writes the standard scheme:address?amount= form, which Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin, Monero and Solana wallets all read. Whether a specific wallet honours the amount varies; the address always works.
Does the amount lock the payment?
No. It pre-fills the sending screen and the payer can change it before confirming. Treat the amount as a convenience, never as an invoice you can rely on being paid exactly.
Is it safe to print a wallet address as a QR code?
A receiving address is public by design, so publishing it is not the risk. The risk is a wrong address: transfers are irreversible, so scan your own printed code and check the address against your wallet before it goes anywhere.
Does the code work across different chains?
No, and this is where money gets lost. An address is chain-specific, and sending on the wrong network usually destroys the funds. The chain is part of what this code encodes, but the sending wallet still has to be on the same one.
Can I set the amount in advance?
Yes, and most wallets pre-fill it. Treat it as a suggestion: the sender can still edit the figure before confirming, so never rely on it as a price that cannot be changed.

Why not just use Instagram’s own nametag code?
Because it only scans from inside Instagram. A customer pointing their camera at your window is not in the app yet, and their camera will simply not recognise it. A plain URL code works from any camera.
Can one code cover all my social profiles?
Only by pointing it at a page that lists them. A QR code holds one destination; the "all my links" experience is a hosted bio page, which is a link the code can point at.
Will I know how many followers came from the code?
Not from a static code, because nothing sits between the scan and the platform. Adding campaign tags to the URL gets you part of the way in the platform’s own analytics; counting the scans themselves needs a dynamic code.
Can one code link to all my social profiles?
Not directly — a code holds one destination. Point it at a page that lists every profile, and you get one printed code that covers all of them and survives you adding a new network.
Does it open the app or the browser?
If the app is installed, most phones hand the link to it. If not, the profile opens in the browser, usually behind a prompt to install. Either way the person reaches the profile.
What happens if I change my username?
The printed code breaks. Profile URLs contain the handle on every major network, so a rename invalidates every code already in circulation. A dynamic code is worth it if the handle is not settled.

How much smaller is MECARD than vCard?
Roughly a third fewer characters for the same four details, because it drops the BEGIN/VERSION/END scaffolding that vCard requires. In practice that is often one QR version smaller, which is a visibly less dense code.
Do modern phones still read MECARD?
Yes. It is old, not obsolete, and it is still what many Japanese and Android-first devices produce natively. The camera app recognises it and offers to create a contact.
Can I put both formats on one card?
You can print two codes, but it confuses people more than it helps. Pick vCard for a business card and MECARD only when the physical space genuinely will not take a denser code.
Why choose MECARD over a full vCard?
Size. MECARD encodes the same core details in far fewer characters, which means a lower QR version and a code that stays readable when printed small — on a badge, a label or the corner of a card.
Do iPhones read MECARD codes?
Yes. iOS and Android both recognise the format and offer to create a contact. It was originally a Japanese carrier standard, which is why it is less known, not less supported.
Which fields does MECARD leave out?
The ones vCard adds around the essentials: job title, organisation, structured address parts and notes. If you need those on the card, use the vCard generator and accept the larger code.

Can I read a QR code from a screenshot?
Yes, and it is the most reliable input there is — a screenshot has no blur, no angle and no glare. Include the light border around the code, because a decoder uses it to find the symbol.
Does this page upload my image?
No. There is no upload and no server call in the decode path; the picture is read into a canvas in your own browser and decoded there. You can verify it by loading the page and then going offline.
Why does my photo fail to decode?
Usually one of four things: the quiet border is cropped off, the photo is at too steep an angle, there is glare across the finder squares, or the code is damaged. Re-shoot square-on with even light before assuming the code is bad.
Can I decode a QR code without scanning it with a phone?
Yes — that is what this page is for. Upload a screenshot or a photo of the code and it decodes in the browser, showing the exact payload without opening anything. It is the safe way to inspect a code you do not trust.
Why does my image fail to decode?
Usually the crop or the angle. The decoder needs all three corner squares and a margin of blank space around them. A photo taken at a slant, a code with something printed over it, or a heavy JPEG re-save will all defeat it.
Does the decoded content get sent to your servers?
No. Decoding happens entirely in your browser and neither the image nor the result leaves the page. There is no upload endpoint here to send it to.

What is quishing?
Phishing delivered by QR code. A sticker goes over the real code on a parking meter, a menu or a notice, and the scan lands on a payment or login page that looks right. It works because the address is unreadable until it is already open.
Can you tell me if a website is dangerous?
No, and we will not pretend to. Judging a site needs a reputation database and a live fetch of the page, neither of which happens here. What this can prove is that an address is dressed up to look like a different one.
How do I spot a tampered QR code in the wild?
Feel the edges: a sticker over a printed code has a lip you can catch with a fingernail. Then check that the code sits inside the original artwork rather than on top of it, and be suspicious of any code that asks for payment or a login on a public surface.
How do I know if a QR code is a scam?
Decode it before you open it and read the domain right to left from the last dot: the real site is the part just before the top-level domain. paypal.com.secure-login.ru is on secure-login.ru, not on PayPal. This page performs that reading for you and flags several other tricks.
What is quishing?
Phishing delivered by QR code. A sticker over a real code on a parking meter or a restaurant table sends people to a payment page that is not the business it appears to be. The printed code hides the address, which is exactly why it works.
Does a clean result mean the link is safe?
No, and the page says so. It checks the shape of the address, not the content of the site, and a brand-new domain with an honest-looking name passes every structural test. Treat a clean result as "no obvious trick", not as an endorsement.

What is the minimum size for a QR code?
There is no single answer, because it depends on how many modules the code has. The useful floor is per module, not per code: keep one module at 0.5 mm or above and the code is comfortable, whatever its version.
Why does a longer link need a bigger code?
Because more data means more modules packed into the same square, so each module is physically smaller at any given printed size. Shortening the URL is often cheaper than enlarging the artwork.
Does the calculator account for the frame around the code?
It sizes the code and its quiet zone. A decorative frame or a "scan me" banner sits outside that, so add its depth to the finished piece — and never let it eat into the quiet zone to save space.
How big should a QR code be for a scan at 2 metres?
About 20 cm across, on the 10:1 rule this calculator applies. That is the printed symbol itself, before the quiet zone — leave a clear margin of at least four modules around it on top of that.
Why does a longer link need a bigger code?
More characters push the symbol to a higher version, which packs more modules into the same square. Each module gets smaller, and below about 0.4 mm the printer and the camera stop resolving them. Shorten the link and the code gets easier at every size.
Does the calculator account for the quiet zone?
It reports the symbol size and the module size, and the quiet zone is four modules on every side of that. Add it to your layout box — a code trimmed flush to its edge is one of the most common print failures.

What contrast does a QR code actually need?
Treat 7:1 as comfortable and 3:1 as the hard floor. That is stricter than the 4.5:1 used for readable text, because a scanner works from a camera frame that may be angled, glared or poorly lit rather than from a screen.
Can I print a QR code in my brand colour?
If it is dark enough against the background, yes. Many brand colours are not — a mid-tone teal or orange on white often lands between 3:1 and 4:1, which prints but leaves nothing in reserve for glare. Use the brand colour for the frame and a darker tone for the modules.
My code scans on screen but not on paper. Why?
A screen is backlit, perfectly flat and has no ink gain. Paper has all three problems, and they eat the same margin: thin contrast, small modules and a missing quiet zone each cost a little, and three small costs together are what tips a code over.
What resolution should a QR code be for printing?
Export at 300 PPI for anything a commercial printer handles. Below that the module edges soften and the scanner has to work harder; at 150 PPI a small code is already marginal. A vector SVG sidesteps the question entirely.
Is a light QR code on a dark background a problem?
Usually yes. The specification assumes dark modules on a light background, and while many modern scanners cope with the inversion, enough do not that an inverted code will quietly lose you scans. Keep dark on light for anything printed at volume.
What is the most common reason a printed QR fails?
Being printed too small for the distance it is read from — followed closely by no quiet zone, and by low contrast from a brand colour that looked fine on screen. All three are what this checker grades.
HEX to CMYK Converter for QR Printing
Why does my grey convert to K only and not CMY?
Because a CMY grey needs three plates to land in perfect register to stay neutral, and any misregistration both shifts the colour and blurs every module edge. Black ink alone cannot misregister against itself.
Will these CMYK numbers match my Pantone colour?
Not exactly, and no formula can. A spot colour is an ink, not a mixture, and matching it needs a press profile and usually a proof. Send your printer the Pantone reference and use these values only as the process-colour fallback.
What ink coverage is too much for a QR code?
Anything near 300% is a drying problem on coated stock, and heavy coverage also spreads under pressure, which closes the gaps between modules. For a QR specifically, a high-K low-CMY build is better than a rich four-colour dark.
Why does my brand colour look different in print?
Screens emit light and mix red, green and blue; paper reflects it and mixes four inks. Bright saturated colours — vivid teals, oranges and greens especially — sit outside what CMYK can reach, so the press prints the nearest achievable colour instead.
What is total ink coverage and why does it matter?
